Some techniques to control the mind


In Geeta krishna says that its really difficult to success in Yoga if one's mind is not under control. Then his disciple Ajuna says that to control the mind is like controlling the air. Krishna says indeed its very difficult to control the mind but as we control wild animal slowly similarly we can control the mind using different techniques. Even in day to day life to focus our mind in one subject is difficult because mind has tendency to wander and not stay at one subject. Sankracharya says one who control the mind is real winner of the world.

What is mind?

According to Hanuman Prasad Podar it is a matter stay between consciousness and matter but attachment and libration of subject is under it. Actually whole life we live through this mind and we got attach with one mind attached with and we remain unattached with which mind remain unattached.

Now we have to understand how to bring it under control in Geeta krishna describe the technique is unattachment with matter and continuously practice of it are technique to bring the mind under one's control.

There are following practices to control the mind.

(1) Unattachment with Subjects of mind.

Unless we remain attached with the matter of the world we can't control our mind. As Budhha says everything ends with giving painful experience. The thing which is new will old one day and it will painful. The time we don't have car we always are in pain of getting one but the time we got one we became again fear of loose it or get old.

(2) Follow the routine in life

Every day should have a fix routine not really with every second or minute but grossly. As time of get up from bed till return back to bed every important actions should be one time. Suppose you getup at 5:00 am usually but if you get up other day 5:10am its ok don't get worry but stick around the time. After that get fresh and sit in meditation for half an hour more or less and so on. Stick with routine without too much regret and try to stick more and more slowly with practice of it. Mind has a tendency of stick with action and mind start getting addicted to that action if we do thing consciously good action mind start follow it slowly and even wrong one. Its called plasticity of brain in modern science.

(3) Contemplate processing of mind

We should contemplate every action of our mind. Before going to bed we should contemplate how mind had work throughout the day, though every thought rises in mind during the day is not possible to recollect but recollect as much as one can. Give yourself a Palouse for the thoughts and actions arises in your mind. For those thoughts which were not useful should be determined to not repeat again. This practice slowly make mind strong to those actions were useful for your growth and it will helpful to control the mind with every passing day.

(4) Make a determination to leave bad habits.

In Geeta it's said that till mind is not fully under control its one of the biggest enemy of us. If there are even one bad habit that recognize is not useful in growth of life mind is controlling us to repeat it. Let's make a firm determination to overcome those habit. Most of the action is repeated in nature and its part of habit, action should not be done just because of habit or because it give pleasure. Every action should be well contemplated and understood its impact in long run on life because every little action done for sake of mind or pleasure in long run becomes a habit and start controlling individual and his growth. Though mind is strong and defeat us in practical life in general we know what is wrong but still be repeat it because of mind. One should not adopt instruction of mind and keep revolt against it as little as possible and as repeatedly as possible. A small revolt of today will make a big change in future. This just little revolt of today going to lay a foundation of your ownership on mind, keep faith and keep taking challenge with mind no matter how little today you can do its your ownership on mind. There is a strange thing in taking challenge with mind, little by little your inner strength start increasing and power of mind start decreasing. Mind is very cleaver it will makes fear, gives taste, make happy in doing according to it but one should keep eyes on all this actions of mind and be firm no matter how little but start taking challenge.

(5) Mind your own business

Everybody knows what is good for him only thing make one successful how much time he think and focused on it. When mind bring its focus on one thing its start wandering to other thoughts naturally after sometime, no matter how you love the things to do. How to bring mind back to the object of focus. In Yoga Sutra the is a practice call 'EK TATVA AABHYASA' practice for one object. Bring any object of observation such as statue, light, spot etc. keep unblinking focus of eye on that object for 10 - 15 minutes during the process there may be tear in eyes , let it come keep your eye focus. When time over blink eyes couple of times and rub your palms and give a gentle massage to eye lids. Keep repeating it for two weeks and keep decreasing the size of the object and keep focus longer. After couples of days after 10-15 minds of unblinking focus gassing close your eyes you will see that object even with closed eye keep gassing for next few minutes in beginning and then increase the time with close eyes. It will increase the will power to fight with habits and will keep you more focus on object of your study or work. After practicing with external object start keep your focus on internal activity of your body such as focus attention on tip of the nose, naval centre, flow of breath etc. take a bath before put loose cloth and sit comfortable if not on floor you can sit on wooden right angle chair which keep your spine in alignment. Either focus your gaze of eyes in front of you or keep your eyes softly closed. Gently bring attention above mentioned internal body activities and keep observing for 20-30 minutes. Keep increasing the time period as much as you can without hurting your body comfort.
